How to replace the CI-710 Blue LED

Instructions for replacing the Blue LED PN: DILLD120CUB500 on the CI-710 leaf clip:

  1. Remove leaf clip from spectrometer by removing the 2 silver hex screws located on the top of the leaf clip.
  2. Remove the 3 hinge screws holding the top clamp to the bottom clamp.
  3. Remove the 4 black screws holding the circuit cover to the bottom leaf clamp.
  4. Determine which type of LED circuit the instrument uses. Type A is the old style with serial number 710-002 and below. Type B is the new style with serial number 710-003 and above.

    TYPE A INSTRUCTIONS:
  5. Remove the Blue LED wire connections by gently pull the red and black wires toward the switch. The wires have female type sockets that plug into the LED leads.
  6. After pulling the wires out you may have to readjust the heat shrink by sliding it down the wire.
  7. Remove the black color on the defective LED and place it on the new LED Insert the new LED back into frame. Reinsert the wires onto the LED leads. Push the heat shrink over the connectors to insulate the connection.

    TYPE B INSTRUCTIONS:
  8. Gently unsolder the blue led from the PCB. The voltage for the LED is 4.87V at the PCB. The voltage for the LED after the 220 ohm resistor is 3.87V. The 220 ohm resistor is inserted to reduce the voltage on the blue LED and increase its longevity. The Long lead of the LED is the Positive lead.

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN SOLDERING AND UNSOLDERING THE LED. THE SOLDER PAD AND TRACES ARE VERY FRAGILE.
