CI-602 Wide Light and Dark Image Banding

This article describes a procedure to clean the CI-602 scan-head lens to reduce banding on image.

Wide, light and dark banding can be evident on an image especially at higher resolutions. (see the below example images taken in a root tube)

This is normal and can be caused by the non-uniformity of the different sensor banks. However, this issue may be worse if dirt or debris is present on the scan-head lens.

Cleaning the scan-head with a cotton swab and very small amount <1ml of Isopropyl alcohol can improve image quality. The user must be careful no alcohol drips or runs-down into the scan-head. Also, it is advised to clean the calibration tube with a soft cloth or a light application of a water-based cleanser.

The below images either indicate an improper connection or faulty cable between instrument, electronics box and PC, or the CI-602 scan-head that needs to be calibrated at our facility. Contact CID support for a new RMA.
