What are the blurry lines in the root image?

Consistent image artifacts such as blurry lines, which do not disappear after calibration, can be caused by physical artifacts. The scan head, including the black strip, should be carefully cleaned using a cloth and can of air.

Cleaning the scan head with a Q-Tip and VERY small amount of isopropyl alcohol can improve image quality. Be careful no alcohol drips or runs down into the scan head!.  Also, it is advised to clean the calibration tube with a soft cloth or a light application of a water-based cleanser.
